Cost, Space & Build Savings.
Our approximate frame size: 94cm H x 99cm L (@ 3’ x 3’3”) is:
1) A lot easier to DIY build than something larger (we first tried at 135cm length),
2) They are modular. So we made:
3) Wells 0 & 22 use 30mm (not 40mm) foam inside the left/right frame, connected to the 12mm left/right frame members (=4.2mm well segment)
4) As a result, the left/right frame members fit inside the top/bottom frame members; left is 135mm D (reduced -2.5mm), right: 128. mm D (reduced -9.5mm):
5) That is, well faces go over the left/right frame members, as they are part of the zero and #22 wells.
DIMENSIONS
Frame Material = 12mm D x 1820mm L x 910mm W Plywood Panel (rip strips pf 13.75cm x @94cm from it)
Backing = 96.5 L x 91.5 W
Frame = Depth: 12 mm (each) x 137.5mm
Well Segments inside Frame (well-segment = 40mm well + 2.5mm fin divider = 42.5nm):
21 wells (40mm), 2 wells (30mm) 23 fins (@2.5mm each)
Build Constant: Actual build fit is between 0.5mm-0.6mm over theoretical, per well. 14mm is added to the total panel length (0.6mm x 23)
BUILD NEEDS
1) 30mm XPS foam spacer on left side (zero well on left side joins with left-side frame); 30mm XPS in last well (23rd well) -- joins to right-side frame)
2) Cut left-frame depth down 2.5mm, cut right-frame depth down 7mm.
3) Foam wells: Dow Chemical XPS ‘Blueboard’, 40mm x 1820mm x 915mm (marked as 910mm)
4) Extra sheet of 40mm XPS foamsheet for well spacers (used during the fitting/gluing process)
